A key reason that most business owners don’t ever find the time to work ON their business is that they spend far too much of their time fighting fires. They lurch from crisis to crisis. No sooner than a band-aid fix has been found for one problem, than their biggest customer rings up to say they haven’t received their urgent order. This means that the time they had put aside to review their monthly sales performance is lost. The urgent takes priority over the important. What if you could get out of the fire fighting business?

Great article, I completley agree. All to often business owners get into the trap of working "in the business" instead of "on the business". You have made some excellent points on how to manage this. Thank you
Great point Greg.
I find the same thing happening all over again with business owners. Some how they shift their focus on different things in the business, thinking those are the core problems of their loss of sales.
I think every business owner needs to refocus their mind on their business, once in a while. Say, what is the actual core of their business? What are the products? How can the products serve the customers?
Ultimately, a business out there is to serve customers and earn profits. So whatever steps in between, they are the 'fire'.
