Using preroll advertising on YouTube has become ubiquitous. You know those annoying ads you have to wait 6 seconds to skip? Well what if the preroll ad showed how much it’s going to cost on your mobile data plan to watch the cat video you just clicked on.
Cable company Xfinity put together a series of these preroll ads based on common YouTube categories. A sample is below.
Xfinity was promoting its new Mobile network, which allows users connect to free WiFi hotspots around the country to avoid mobile data charges. What better way to promote your product than showing how much someone can save whilst they are using your competitor’s product? How can you demonstrate your competitor’s product’s disadvantages while they are using them?
